The Easter holiday meant only one thing, a mini ‘Big Dig’ to prepare the chicken run, build the coup and ensure water and food would be plentiful for the arrival of our gorgeous hens. 8 Lohmann chickens were introduced to pupils in assembly on Tuesday morning with only 3 escaping from the box! They love their new home and we love collecting the eggs.
Applications for young chicken farmers will be gathered before this responsibility is handed over to pupils. Our hens will help us with our Maths and we’ll be tracking egg production against food consumption daily to answer one vital question; If we increase the number of chickens will the additional eggs harvested pay for the increase in food? Only time will tell.
The eggs are delicious by the way. Enjoy the photos!
