Experience Life in our Happy School

We are so proud of our school grounds and especially the outdoor learning spaces we have created for our pupils. Put the kettle on, sit back and enjoy a tour around our happy school!

As part of our VE day celebrations the Gulval School community would like to give thanks to the ‘Greatest Generation’.

This video was produced remotely during ‘lockdown’ at a time where we were all hoping to be back together with our friends and families once again.

Expedition Week 2019 ‘Snowdon Summit’

In 2019, 19 staff and 10 children reached the summit of Mount Snowdon in North Wales, part of two separate expeditions led by our Headteacher Mr Baker from Penzance in Cornwall.

The only way for both teams to reach the summit was by staying together and supporting one another. Staff and pupils hiked through 5 hours of driving rain and gale force winds to stand on the summit. The team of 10 pupils (ranging from 6 to 11 years) and the staff team will never forget the experience, they have memories that will last a lifetime.

** Time to Move: Community Collaboration Award Winners **

We were delighted to have won the Time to Move Award for ‘Community Collaboration’, a credit to the hard working and dedicated staff team who strive for excellence every single day. We are proud of the support we provide our community and the many opportunities we create for us to collaborate.

** Cornwall School of the Year: ‘Highly Commended’ **

We commissioned this short video to mark our ‘School of the Year’ award in 2018, recognition for the journey we made from Special Measure in 2014 to Ofsted Good with Outstanding for behaviour and Safety in 2017.

Team Gulval ‘Shotgun’ Collaboration

A trial collaboration during Covid 19 school closure. This was our attempt at finding a way to keep our school choir connected and singing!

Green Class Dragon Hunt

Evidence is mounting of dragons living nearby. First Dorothy has been left to care for a clutch of eggs which have now hatched (one week before the full moon). Ethan spotted footprints and thinks he had found a lair. Two children say that a dragon burnt their homework and Rio went for a peaceful walk in the woods and this happened…

We Love our Beautiful Pygmies!

We have five gorgeous Pygmy Goats living with us in school. They add so much value to everything that we do, academic learning, health and well-being and community collaboration.

Gulval School Minibus

In April 2019 we joined Truro and Penwith Academy Trust and immediately prioritised the increased funding to lease our very first minibus, something we had been trying to achieve since September 2014. Needless to say this was an emotional experience. Two weeks after this launch our bus was heading up the M5 to North Wales!

Steve Backshall

Yellow Class got creative with their learning and asked Steve Backshall lots of animal related questions… Pupils could not believe it when he sent them a reply all the way from the Isles of Scilly! Thank you Steve!

School Council Application

We love how creative our children can be, check out this application video from the talented Imogen!

Saying à bientôt to Mr Baker

After leading the school from Special Measure to Ofsted Good with ‘Outstanding’ in 2017, Mr Baker became the Regional Executive Principal for the Adventure Learning Trust in charge of 5 Cornish schools including our own. Superheroes is still our unofficial school anthem and was a perfect way to show our appreciation. Mr Baker was never far away during this time and arrived back with us full time in April  2019.
