Awards and Achievements

Our work supporting pupils and families is recognised by a number of organisations. We are proud of all our achievements including the very latest, we became the very first Thrive School of Excellence in the country!

First Thrive ‘School of Excellence’ in the Country

In February 2021, the nationally recognised and hugely respected Thrive Approach awarded their top honour; Gulval School became the first ‘School of Excellence’ in the country. An incredible honour and one that we are proud and humbled to accept.

What did Thrive Approach say about this achievement?

‘I am delighted to hear of your extraordinary commitment to embedding the Thrive Approach in your setting, having earned Thrive Ambassador School with Excellence in Leadership, Right-time, Reparative, Relationship and Environment and have therefore now been awarded the status of Thrive School of Excellence.’ Kate Middleton

Thrive Ambassador status with Excellence

We are absolutely over the moon and proud to have been awarded Thrive Approach ambassador school status (with excellence!) in all four areas of leadership, reparative, right-time and environment. We are the first and only school in the country to achieve these awards. Our incredible journey continues with Thrive at the heart of all that we do.

What did Thrive Approach say about this achievement?

Congratulations to everyone at Gulval! A secure and loving school community, with whole hearted and compassionate leadership. It is a joy to be alongside you on your journey.” Rose Webb (Relationship Manager – South West)

Pride in our Thrive School Status

It is so important for every child to feel happy, that they matter, are unique, feel valued, special and above all part of a community. If children have been emotionally thrown off track, either temporarily or over longer periods, our Thrive training can help us understand the needs being signalled through the behaviours they communicate. We can then create targeted strategies and activities to help children re-engage and thrive.

Ofsted Graded Good with Outstanding

Gulval School was recognised in May 2017 for its academic achievements. Its dedication in providing a first class education for its pupils and its unrelenting support of the local community. Awarding a judgement of Good with Outstanding features Ofsted said;
‘The principal’s vision and moral purpose has created an inclusive school where expectations are high. The principal leads with a relentless ambition for excellence. He leads by example to create a haven where pupils make good progress.

School Games Gold Award

In 2019 we were awarded with the School Games Gold Award, recognising our commitment to ensuring the very best sporting opportunities are available to pupils at Gulval School. This was a big deal and we were rightly very pleased!

Healthy Schools Award

We were delighted to be recognised for our work supporting the health and well being of our pupils, our wider community and of course our staff; ‘Team Gulval’.

Youth Sports Trust (Silver)

The Youth Sports Trust is a national charity dedicated to building a brighter future for all young people. We are passionate about our sport, our support of pupils wellbeing and the outdoors.

Woodland Trust Award (Silver)

We were rewarded again for completing more environmental projects and encouraging outdoor learning. Each year we can’t wait to pick the apples from our school orchard and eat the delicious produce growing in our Poly Tunnel.

Stonewall School Champions

We pride ourselves on accepting all pupils, and members of our school community, without exception. Stonewall and Gulval School believe we’re stronger united. As a result, our communities can continue to find ways to flourish, and individuals can reach their full potential.
