From Grid References to Mountain Adventures! 🗺️⛰️

Year 6 Sapphire Class have been putting their geography skills to the test with an exciting unit all about Snowdonia! We kicked things off by exploring the incredible mix of human and physical features in the national park, got to grips with OS map symbols, learnt how to use four- and six-figure grid references like true map-reading pros and even practised plotting routes across tricky terrain. Our classroom transformed into a mini navigation HQ as we discovered how these clever tools help us make sense of the landscape.

But the real adventure came when we took our learning beyond the classroom and straight into the heart of Snowdonia itself! Armed with our new skills, we identified locations we’d studied, matched them to what we saw around us and navigated using real maps. It was amazing to spot places we’d only seen as symbols and numbers come to life in front of us.

Not only did we explore one of the UK’s most stunning landscapes, but we proved just how powerful map skills can be. Next stop: the world! (Well… after Year 6!)
