Rainforests explorers 🌿🌎

Amethyst Class have begun an exciting new topic all about rainforests and their vital role in protecting our planet. The children have been fascinated to learn that rainforests are often called the “lungs of the Earth” because they produce so much of the world’s oxygen and help to regulate the climate.

We explored where rainforests are located around the world and discovered that they are found near the Equator, where the climate is warm and wet all year round. The class were amazed by the incredible variety of plants and animals that live there. From brightly coloured birds to towering trees, rainforests are home to more than half of the world’s species!

The children also discussed why rainforests are so important. They help to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, provide habitats for wildlife and are a source of food and medicine for people around the world. We talked thoughtfully about the challenges rainforests face, including deforestation, and considered how small changes we make can have a positive impact.

There has already been lots of curiosity and fantastic questioning, and we are looking forward to focusing specifically on the Amazon rainforest next half term. We can’t wait to learn more about its unique environment, wildlife and global importance.
