Our intent at Gulval School in Music is

We want all children to have the drive and the opportunity to flourish in all aspects of our world. We want our children to be actively engaged and excited by their learning – looking for ways they can be part of a music community and seeking opportunities to perform inside and outside of the school environment.

We want to deliver a music curriculum which enables children to develop a love of music whilst increasing self-confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement. Our aim is to provide a high-quality music education that engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and nurtures their talent as musicians.

We want all children to enjoy collaborating with their peers, to enjoy that sense of togetherness when working with others to achieve a goal. Through a range of whole class and group activities, children have the opportunity to explore sounds, listen actively, compose music and perform together. They will recognise the talents of others and strengths and support their peers to challenge themselves.

We want to immerse children in a carefully planned and purposeful curriculum, to deepen their understanding of music in the world across a range of historical periods. We support and encourage children to explore, share and discuss their own unique musical preferences and knowledge with confidence

We want a progressive curriculum that builds on previous knowledge and understanding, helping children to develop key skills including listening, creativity, evaluating and performing. Children will develop their aural memory, express themselves physically and create their own musical ideas.
At Gulval School, our Music curriculum inspires children to develop a love of music and an appreciation of its power to bring people together. Through listening, performing, composing and appraising, pupils explore a wide range of musical styles, traditions and cultures.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that musical knowledge, skills and understanding build progressively from year to year. Children develop confidence in singing, playing instruments, reading musical notation and creating their own compositions, while revisiting and refining key musical concepts over time.
By the end of their time at Gulval School, pupils will have developed creativity, confidence and musical understanding, enabling them to express themselves, work collaboratively and enjoy music as performers, composers and listeners.

We are pleased to offer pupils the opportunity to receive instrumental music lessons from specialist teachers. Instruments currently available include guitar, drums, violin, flute and keyboard, helping children to develop their musical skills, confidence and enjoyment of music.
If you would like further information about music tuition or how to arrange lessons for your child, please contact the school office, who will be happy to help.
