PSHE, RHSE & SMSC

Our intent at Gulval School in PSHE & RHSE is

In an ever-changing society, we provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them. We support them to be resilient, adaptable, passionate and positive young people with an adventurous spirit; able to embrace the challenges and opportunities that await them. Together we challenge negative stereotypes with an attitude of open mindedness and respect.

We want to provide our children with opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities, to embrace differences and appreciate what it feels like to be a positive and active member of a diverse community. We want our children to respect, embrace and embody British Values and understand what it means to be a good citizen.

We want children to be kind and passionate and develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in the life of our school and wider community through real responsibility. Positive relationships are fundamental to our ethos and success in being part of a happy, caring and safe environment where children grow in confidence, build self-esteem and can manage risks.

We want to provide our children with opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities, to embrace differences and appreciate what it feels like to be a positive and active member of a diverse community. We want our children to respect, embrace and embody British Values and understand what it means to be a good citizen.

We want children to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to live their lives now and in the future; to have the character, responsibility and the honesty required to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society; to have the self-belief and confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

At Gulval School, our PSHE, RSE and SMSC curriculum supports children to become happy, healthy, respectful and responsible members of society. Through a carefully planned programme of learning, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to thrive both in school and beyond.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that understanding of relationships, health and wellbeing, safety, citizenship and personal development builds progressively from year to year. Children learn to manage their emotions, build positive relationships, celebrate diversity and make informed choices, while developing confidence, resilience and respect for others.

By the end of their time at Gulval School, pupils will have developed a strong sense of self, an understanding of their role within the wider community, and the skills needed to navigate life’s opportunities and challenges with confidence, kindness and integrity.
