PE

Our intent at Gulval School in PE is

We want all children to be actively engaged; to have the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact on their own physical health and wellbeing, not just in education but beyond into their adult life.

We want all children to be inspired to lead healthy active lifestyles through high quality Physical Education. We want our children to build on their fundamental movement skills to become physically literate and build their self-esteem.  We want children to enjoy their physical activity so that they are ‘hooked’ for life.

We want all children to be passionate about becoming positive leaders. We will encourage and give opportunities for children to develop key skills and work in a team to problem solve and compete. We want all pupils to succeed and excel in a broad range of competitive sports.

We want all children to be immersed in a carefully planned, purposeful and creative curriculum, supporting every child to develop their emotional intelligence, cognitive skills and their physical literacy. We support and celebrate our Cornish heritage through collaboration with local sports clubs, encouraging our children to lead happy, active lives.

We want a progressive curriculum which builds on knowledge and understanding where children can develop and become confident in their personal, social and physical skills. We want children to have the knowledge to lead a healthy active life.

At Gulval school our PE curriculum inspires children to lead active, healthy lifestyles and develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. Through a wide range of sports, games and physical challenges, pupils build confidence, resilience and teamwork skills while improving their physical fitness and wellbeing.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that knowledge, skills and understanding develop progressively from year to year. Children learn and refine fundamental movement skills, participate in team and individual sports, and develop their ability to evaluate and improve their performance. They are encouraged to show determination, sportsmanship and respect for others in both competitive and non-competitive activities.

By the end of their time at Gulval School, pupils will have developed the confidence, skills and motivation to participate in physical activity, understand the importance of healthy lifestyles, and enjoy being active both in and beyond school.

Extra curricular PE and competition

At Gulval there are many opportunities for children to get involved in physical activities. We encourage children to get involved as it can provide additional opportunities for pupils to practise, consolidate and apply their learning. Competitions are so important for children’s confidence. Competitions can be useful to teach elements such as graceful winning and losing, as well as providing opportunities to assess use of tactics.
